National Symposium of Marine Technology 2018 (NSMT2018)
The National Symposium in Marine Technology 2018 (NSMT2018) is a significant milestone event with a concerted attempt to create a drive towards developing design capability for the development of the national maritime industry. This first symposium will be the headstone for many more symposiums and conferences that would address the specific needs of technology for the country.
The NSMT 2018 was successfully held at Premiera Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 22nd October 2018. The symposium was in collaboration between UniKL and Technology Depository Agency (TDA). The NSMT 2018 was officiated by Y.B Dr. Ong Kian Ming , Deputy Minister of MITI and the President/CEO of UniKL, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Suud who was also present. A total of 7 speakers were involved in the symposium and they were Noriah Ahmad (TDA), Ir. Ahmad Fuaad Ahmad Sabki (AMDeC), Nasrudin Ismail (UTM), Alastair J Bisset (Destini Shipbuilding and Engineering Sdn Bhd), Dr. Surjatin Wiriaddidjaja (Engsyspro, Inc.), Suh Wan Cul (My-Korea Maritime Proper Mediation Inc.) and Le Loc (Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Association (VISIA).
The purpose of this symposium is for stakeholders namely designers, shipbuilders and ship owners to DELIBERATE on the multiplicity of factors that contributes to the current status of the national marine industry.
It aims at:
- converging on the need to concur on the action plan to revitalise the SBSR industry through developing and strengthening the design capability
- Developing a PLATFORM for the marine design industry to meet and discuss issues pertaining to the knowledge, skills and capability of the national marine design status
- Enhancing the cooperation of the stakeholders with AMDeC and augmenting the design capability
