9 January 2025 (Thursday)
The Manjung Municipal Council (MPM), in collaboration with the Association of Environmental Activists (KUASA) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur’s Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL-MIMET), has developed a Mangrove Forest Simulation Tank. This innovative project aims to raise awareness about the importance of mangrove forests as natural wave barriers against natural disasters.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by Tuan Muhammad Faizal Shah Safian Suri, President of MPM. Also present were Mr. Mohd Helmi Arifin (MPM Secretary), Ts. Dr. Zaimi Zainal Mukhtar (Dean of UniKL-MIMET), Ms. Norazean Mohd Nor (UNDP Project Field Coordinator), Mr. Noor Ismady Ahmad Radzuan (Deputy Chairman of KUASA), along with MPM council members, senior directors, and other officials.
This project, funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and designed by Asia Marine Design Center (UniKL-MIMET), also serves as an educational exhibit. It aims to help the community understand the significance of preserving mangrove ecosystems for environmental stability.
This initiative is a vital step toward fostering public awareness of the need to protect mangrove ecosystems, which are critical for addressing climate change and natural disasters. It is hoped that this project will inspire continued efforts to safeguard our natural heritage for future generations.
Deep appreciation and gratitude are extended to all parties involved for their commitment and cooperation in realizing this event. Your support is highly valued in preserving environmental sustainability.
