The MET (Maritime) programme would enable the students to venture into better level research area and guide them to have better level of thinking and understanding. This would surely increase the research and development capability. On the other hand, MET (Maritime) graduates would have a better opportunity for career advancement in their current jobs or within the maritime sector for instance; shipping companies, shipbuilding and ship repair sectors, naval architecture and marine engineering, maritime defence industry, port operators, universities and research institutes and government maritime agencies.
Career Opportunities:
- Shipbuilding and ship repair Marine construction, marine maintenance technology, underwater technology
- Government maritime agencies Marine Department; Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency; Port Authorities; Royal Malaysian Navy; Oceanographic Department; Royal Customs; other civil service.
- Maritime defence industry Commercial; Quality Assurance; Project management.
- Naval architecture and marine engineering firm Ship Design, Naval Engineering
- Ship surveyor Survey and inspection of vessels.
- Maritime Research Institutes Maritime technology, destructive and non-destructive analysis, vibration analysis, sensors, water testing, oceanography, Marine and coastal environments.
Admission Requirements:
Master’s Degree by Research
- i. A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent, as accepted by the HEP Senate; or
- ii. A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to
- rigorous internal assessment; or
- iii. A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a
- minimum of 5 years working experience in the relevant field and rigorous internal assessment.
- iv. Candidates without a qualification in the related fields or relevant working experience must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by
- the HEP and meet the minimum CGPA based on (i) to (iii).

Programme Learning Outcome (PLO):
At the end of the programme, graduates should be able to:
- PLO 1:Demonstrate continuing and advanced knowledge and have the capabilities to further develop or use these in maritime industry.
- PLO 2:Analyse and evaluate problems relating to the maritime industry critically particularly in situations with limited information and to provide solutions through the application of appropriate tools and techniques.
- PLO 3:Appraise available information and research evidence and apply it in the maritime engineering technology context.
- PLO 4:Plan and perform research undertakings professionally, ethically and responsibly fulfilling the needs of maritime industry.
- PLO 5: Report technical findings relevant to the maritime industry in both written and oral forms.
- PLO 6: Recognise the needs for continuing professional development appropriate to the maritime industry.
- PLO 7:Exhibit awareness and understanding of business practices and technopreneurial competencies.
