Certification of Participation 2019: Learning about Forest (LEAF) Programme by Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), Denmark
UniKL MIMET is the latest among many local universities that is involved in the earth conservation efforts. Despite being relatively new to the field, we have garnered support from the world body i.e. Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) which has accorded us the status of Eco Campus.
‘Platform Hijau’ @platform.hijau headed by our Senior Lecturer, Ts. Azman Bin Ismail, assisted by Mdm Fauziah Ab Rahman, this lecturer-and-student-based club has been actively engaged in numerous programmes focusing on preserving the nature. Among the activities are beach profiling, shoreline survey, wildlife monitoring in various forest reserves in Malaysia. The EcoCampus initiative is driven by FEE, an international environmental education programme which is operated by WWF. Its aim is to empower students with the leadership skills in environmental sustainability by learning beyond the lecture halls.
#UniKLMIMET is also an active participant in a programme called Learning about Forests (LEAF). LEAF advocates outdoor learning and hands-on experiences to get students to have a deeper understanding of the natural world. While the focus of the LEAF programme is on tree-based ecosystems, the skills and knowledge acquired are applicable to any natural environment.
We are also proud to announce that UniKL MIMET has been awarded a certificate of participation for LEAF2019, one of only four other local universities to have ever received an excellent recognition in this programme by Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), Denmark.
